6 Tips on Preparing for Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Facial plastic surgery is the gold standard when it comes to restoring the youthful appearance of your past. In fact, many men and women are able to see dramatic, long-lasting results with a single surgery. While recovery from surgery was once a major ordeal, the advanced techniques used today have significantly reduced pain, side effects, and ultimately downtime.

Each surgery is unique, but with careful planning and preparation, you’ll be able to facilitate a smooth recovery sans complications. The board-certified surgeons at Specialty Aesthetic Surgery will be at your side every step of the way. Today, we’ll take a quick look at a few things you can do at home to get back to your regular routine as soon as possible.

#1 DO: Schedule Your Surgery in Good Health

The best way to achieve an optimal outcome from any surgery is to make sure you’re in otherwise good general health. Your surgeon may request lab work or routine medical examinations prior to your surgery. This allows them to catch and prepare for any potential complications.

#2 DO: Boost Your Immune System

Eating healthy is essential if you want to facilitate a speedy recovery. Add lots of protein and healthy fats to your diet as well as plenty of nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, copper, zinc and selenium. These nutrients help increase red blood cells for faster wound healing while also boosting your immune system to reduce the chance of infection. Start your immune-boosting diet as early as possible before surgery.

#3 DO: Drink Lots of Water

Staying hydrated is always a good idea, but especially in the days and weeks prior to your surgery. We generally recommend consuming 6-8 glasses of water the day before your surgery because fasting (including water) is generally required the day of surgery.

#4 DON’T: Take Blood Thinning Medications

Medications that have blood-thinning qualities such as aspirin should be avoided several weeks before your facial plastic surgery. Make sure you talk to your surgeon about all medications you take at the time of your upcoming surgery. They’ll be able to provide guidance on what you can and cannot take as well as when you should stop them.

#5 DON’T: Smoke or Take Recreational Drugs

Smoking and surgery do not mix. Another no-no before surgery is any type of recreational drug because they can decrease oxygen supplies and prohibit wound healing. We recommend you stop smoking up to six weeks before and after your surgery.

#6 DON’T: Drink Alcohol 72-Hours Before Surgery

Alcohol suppresses the immune system. Avoid drinking alcohol 3-days before surgery and throughout your recovery process. Furthermore, limiting alcohol consumption 2-8 weeks is a good idea as well. Doing so will ultimately reduce downtime and prevent any unwanted complications while you heal.

Our team of skilled surgeons and specialists will craft a pre and post-surgical treatment plan based on your individual needs. We’ll be available to answer any questions and address any concerns you may have before, during, and after surgery.
