Am I A Better Candidate For Neck Liposuction Or A Neck Lift?

Contouring the neckline is a great way to minimize the effects of aging and appear younger and slimmer. As our skin loses laxity, the skin in the neck (along with the rest of the face) begins to sag. Many patients see loose skin, muscle laxity, and excess fat in the neck area. Both a neck lift and neck liposuction refine and contour the neckline – but they work in different ways and one procedure may be more suitable for your condition than the other.

Neck Liposuction

During neck liposuction, fat deposits under the chin and along the neckline are removed through a cannula connected to a vacuum. This procedure is great for patients with good skin elasticity – typically younger patients whose skin has retained sufficient spring to allow it to tighten on its own. This property can be determined during a routine examination. Neck liposuction is ideal for patients whose concern is stubborn neck fat – not skin laxity, wrinkles, or extreme sagging.

Neck Lift

A neck lift involves lifting and repositioning sagging skin and removing its excess. This procedure corrects skin laxity in the neck and is meant for patients who are experiencing moderate to severe sagging or, “turkey neck.” Neck Lift surgery also re-establishes support and tightens neck musculature, while removing excess skin. Typical Neck Lift candidates are middle-aged men and women.

If you are bothered by excess fat in the chin and neck area, neck liposuction may give you great results. If your skin is very lax and sags, a neck lift might be a better option for you.
