Am I a Good Candidate for Neck Liposuction?

Are you tired of sagging skin that has gathered around your neck area? Have you tried to eat healthy and do neck exercises, but it just won’t seem to budge? You’re not alone! A lot of people experience this problem, and it can be notoriously difficult to shed weight from the neck area. However, all hope is not lost, as options are available to remove unwanted neck fat and improve its contour.

Neck Liposuction Overview

Neck liposuction involves getting rid of excess fat around the chin area. Here is what happens during the procedure:

  1. Your surgeon will examine your neck and chin area, using a pen to mark the areas of fullness and poor definition.
  2. An antiseptic solution is going to be used to thoroughly cleanse the skin. The purpose of this is to lower the risk of infection.
  3. Medications for sedation will then be administered by the anesthesiologist, if desired. Alternatively, a local anesthetic, i.e. numbing medication, can be injected into the skin.
  4. After this, the surgeon will make a few small incisions into the skin, to introduce the liposuction cannula.
  5. After the liposuction cannula is inserted, excess fat is removed. The surgeon is going to pay close attention to how much fat is taken away from each area, aiming for an even and smooth neck contour.
  6. Finally, bandaging will be applied. This is accomplished using a special chin strap, which supports the skin during the healing phase.

Who is an Optimal Candidate for Neck Liposuction?

Now that you have a good understanding of what neck liposuction is and what the procedure entails, you will probably want to know whether or not you are a good candidate for this type of treatment. A good candidate is an adult female or male who is in good overall health. We also find that individuals with good skin tone tend to do particularly well when it comes to neck liposuction outcomes.

Ultimately, anyone who is bothered by excess fat in the neck area or the shape of their neck are a candidate for this procedure. The consultation is an important part of the process as it helps determine whether or not neck liposuction is the right procedure for you.

How Long is Recovery from a Neck Liposuction?

In terms of recovery, the vast majority of patients go home the same day following their surgery. After a period of five to ten days, you can expect bruising and swelling to go down. You will also be given pain medication, which can be helpful during the first 24 to 72 hours after surgery.
