Can I Get a Brow Lift and Eyelid Lift at the Same Time?

If your eye area has started to show signs of aging such as drooping or puffiness, you may be wondering what you can do to fix it. A brow lift and eyelid lift are two surgical options for improving the appearance of your eye area, but they address different concerns. Your surgeon at Specialty Aesthetic Surgery will determine which procedure will treat your concerns or whether you might benefit from both at the same time.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow or forehead lift is performed to address issues such as drooping eyebrows, sagging forehead skin, and wrinkles or creases. This procedure can be performed using small incisions around the hairline and ears, but it can also be performed endoscopically. The skin of your forehead is lifted and tightened, restoring a smooth forehead and naturally youthful brow arch.

This procedure is ideal for those with eyes that look “hooded” due to heavy brows that hang over them. It is also recommended for those with horizontal forehead lines too deep to be treated with injectables. A brow lift also helps improve the appearance of the upper eyelids by making them more visible. Your surgeon’s skill and experience provide a smooth, refreshed appearance that never looks tight or surprised.

What is an Eyelid Lift?

If your concerns are focused on drooping or wrinkled eyelids, puffiness, or undereye bags, your surgeon may recommend an upper or lower eyelid lift (blepharoplasty). This procedure tightens loose skin, removes or repositions fat pads to address puffiness, and smooths wrinkles for a bright-eyed, rejuvenated appearance.

An upper blepharoplasty targets concerns such as drooping skin, which can be severe enough to obscure part of your vision. A lower blepharoplasty focuses on issues such as undereye bags, puffiness, and hollowness. Depending on your needs, you may have one or both sets of eyelids treated during your procedure.

Can I Get a Brow Lift and Eyelid Lift at the Same Time?

If you have concerns related to your brows and eyelids, you may wonder if you can have them all addressed at the same time. There are actually several significant benefits to combining more than one procedure into the same surgery, including:

  • Only one surgery means less time spend under anesthesia.
  • Combining procedures does not increase your recovery time, so you can avoid two recovery periods.
  • You will see better, more comprehensive results after a single surgery and can enjoy your full benefits sooner.
  • You will typically save money on costs related to anesthesia, the cost of surgery itself, and other factors.
  • Most people will not experience much additional discomfort or a longer recovery period based on combining procedure.
  • You will only have to experience the slightly swollen appearance that often occurs after surgery one time instead of twice.
  • You are more likely to be fully satisfied with the results you see since all your concerns have been addressed.

The specific benefits of having a brow lift and eyelid lift together include seeing a fully rejuvenated eye area. If you have concerns about drooping eyelids, you are also likely to have issues with heavy or sagging brows. Since these signs of aging often occur together, especially if you have been fortunate enough to inherit the tendency to develop them, combining procedures is often recommended to achieve your best results.

What is Recovery Like After a Brow Lift and Eyelid Lift?

When you leave your procedure, you can expect some swelling and discomfort. Pain medication is prescribed as needed for the first few days. Cold compresses and sleeping with your head elevated will help reduce these effects. You will see improvements in swelling over the next week or two. Most people can return to low-activity jobs within a week, especially after an endoscopic brow lift (transbleparoplasty).

Swelling continues to improve over the next few weeks, with full results taking a few months to develop. Scars from these procedures are strategically hidden in order to become almost invisible after healing. You will receive detailed aftercare instructions and follow-up visits with your Specialty Aesthetic Surgery team to ensure you are healing well.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift and Eyelid Lift?

The age at which you start to notice drooping brows and undereye bags is strongly affected by factors like genetics and sun exposure. As a result, healthy adults of almost any age are usually good candidates for a brow lift, eyelid lift, or both. Candidates should have reasonable expectations and be able to take the appropriate amount of recovery time after their procedure.

You may not be a good candidate if you are pregnancy, breastfeeding, or have certain medical conditions. People with an eye infection or active skin condition around the eyes should have these concerns treated before having these procedures.
