If you used to love your breasts but are bothered by sagging or drooping, you may feel more self-conscious and less comfortable in your favorite clothes. While weight loss and pregnancy are the most common causes of sagging breasts, they can also droop as a result of aging and gravity, especially large or heavy breasts. A breast lift is the most effective way to restore your youthful contours and balanced figure.
What is a Breast Lift (Mastopexy)?
Mastopexy, or a breast lift, corrects breasts that have drooped from their original position. Women with this issue often have areolas that point downward instead of outward and have lost volume from the upper part of the breasts. A breast lift addresses these concerns using a customized surgical plan that Dr. Stein will work with you to develop.
How is a Breast Lift Done?
The details of mastopexy depend on the amount of drooping, the size of your breasts, and many other factors. For minor tightening, incisions can be made along the edges of the areola. For more correction, Dr. Stein may use an incision from the areola to the breast crease along the underside of the breast. To achieve maximum results, a horizontal incision is also made in the crease underneath the breast.
During your breast lift, your surgeon removes excess skin, restores the breast volume to its perky, youthful shape, and repositions the areolas if necessary. The procedure takes place using general anesthesia and typically takes two to four hours. A breast lift can be performed alone, with other forms of breast enhancement, or with a procedure such as a tummy tuck.
