How Long is Recovery from a Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)?

Are you unhappy with the appearance of drooping eyelids, sagging skin around the upper eye region, or undereye bags?

If so, you may be a good candidate for a blepharoplasty procedure.

What Can a Blepharoplasty Treat?

A blepharoplasty – also known as an eyelid lift – is a cosmetic surgery that aims to correct aging symptoms around the eyes, including:

  • Sagging skin
  • Drooping eyelid skin
  • Moderate to severe wrinkles around the eyes
  • Under eye bags
  • And more

Blepharoplasty surgery can be separated into two categories: the first is an upper eyelid lift, which focuses on correcting signs of aging on the upper eyelids. The second is the lower eyelid lift, which concentrates on minimizing the appearance of undereye bags and drooping skin.

What to Expect from Your Eyelid Lift Recovery

If you opt for a blepharoplasty procedure, you can expect the following from your recovery:

  • Time off work: We recommend taking at least five to seven days off from work immediately after your blepharoplasty surgery.
  • Additional recovery time: While you can return to work after about a week of recovery, we do recommend adjusting your normal routine to accommodate additional rest. For example, we advise patients to wait about three weeks before resuming their workout routine.

You may feel uncomfortable during the first week of your blepharoplasty recovery; for that reason, we may prescribe pain medication that can last up to 72 hours after your surgery.

Who is a Good Candidate for an Eyelid Lift?

You’re a good candidate for an eyelid lift if you are unhappy about wrinkles, sagging skin, and undereye bags. All eyelid lift candidates need to be healthy nonsmokers who will commit to their personalized recovery plan.
