How Long is Recovery from a Rhinoplasty?

If you are thinking about getting rhinoplasty, it is important to find out as much information as possible about this procedure in advance. While it’s best to schedule a consultation with a qualified and experienced rhinoplasty surgeon, who can answer many of the questions about rhinoplasty surgery, you can also start gathering some of the information before scheduling such a visit. That’s what we’re going to discuss in this article, so keep reading if you would like to find out more.

Rhinoplasty Overview

Rhinoplasty is the medical term for what is commonly referred to as a nose job. The main purpose of this procedure is to change the shape and appearance of the nose.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Rhinoplasty may be the most common type of plastic surgery, but it is still surgery. The first thing that you need to understand is that it can take months for the nose to completely heal and for the swelling to completely go away. Once this has happened, the new shape of your nose will be visible, but it can take time which is why you need to be patient.

For most people, they will be able to see gradual changes over the first couple of weeks. This will happen as the tissues heal and the swelling starts to go down. Even though you are likely to see some kind of improvement in the first couple of weeks, you do need to be aware that the nose holds swelling longer than any other part of the body. This is why it can take so long to heal fully and for you to see the full effect of your rhinoplasty.

Any pain and swelling will be most prominent in the first week following surgery. It is more than likely that you are going to experience some bruising and discomfort in your cheeks. This lasts for around a week or two and gradually dissipates.

Benefits of a Rhinoplasty

There are a number of benefits of having a rhinoplasty. It depends on what you were hoping to achieve when you decided to undergo this surgery.

One of the benefits is that it can improve your breathing if you experience obstructive symptoms. Also, if you have a deviated septum, it can be fixed during your rhinoplasty surgery.

On the aesthetic side of things, a rhinoplasty can increase or decrease the size of your nose, and balance out your nose against your other facial features.

Essentially, a rhinoplasty can improve the look and function of your nose!

Who is an Optimal Candidate for a Rhinoplasty?

You are an optimal candidate for a rhinoplasty if:

  • You want to improve your breathing
  • You experience nasal obstruction due to a deviated septum
  • You want to feel confident about your nasal appearance
  • You are otherwise in good health

You do need to understand all of the risks that come with a rhinoplasty before you undergo the procedure. These will be discussed with you at length during your initial and pre-op consultations.
