How Much is Breast Augmentation?

The desire for larger, fuller breasts is a very common one, with hundreds of thousands of women choosing the procedure every year. Breast augmentation gives you the attractive curves you have always wanted. Today’s breast implants are safer than ever, and your surgeon has a range of options for performing your procedure, allowing you to achieve extraordinary results and feel more confident.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a popular type of plastic surgery that inserts saline or silicone breast implants to create larger, more shapely breasts. It can also be performed to correct breast asymmetry or replace volume lost due to aging. Your surgeons at Specialty Aesthetic Surgery are experts in sculpting beautiful, proportionate breasts that enhance your figure and improve your contours. This procedure can be performed alone or with other breast enhancement procedures, such as a breast lift.

How is Breast Augmentation Performed?

Your surgeon may perform breast augmentation in a variety of ways, depending on your needs, the type of implant, and other factors. Incisions may be made along the edge of the areola or in the crease under the breast. Your surgeon will create a pocket that holds the implant securely in place, then close the incisions.

Breast implants generally consist of a silicone shell with either saline or silicone gel inside. Your surgeon will discuss your options, with each type having advantages. Many people find that silicone implants look and feel more natural, while others prefer saline because it is harmlessly absorbed by the body if the implant ruptures. Both types are extremely safe and FDA-approved.

How Much is Breast Augmentation?

Because each breast augmentation is unique, the cost of the procedure can vary widely. Factors that will affect your total cost include:

  • Your location
  • Your surgeon’s experience and skill
  • The details of your procedure
  • The type of implants used
  • Other fees and expenses

We always recommend a consultation for those seeking cost estimates since it allows your surgeon to assess your needs and determine a treatment plan. You may also have some additional costs, such as medications, blood tests, or post-surgical garments.

What is Recovery Like After Breast Augmentation?

You can expect some swelling and soreness in your breasts after surgery, and you will have a post-surgical support bra to wear for several weeks. Your surgeon will prescribe pain medication as needed. Most people return to work within about a week, and swelling improves significantly in the first week or two.

You can usually resume low-impact activities after the first few weeks and return to your full exercise routine within four to six weeks. You will have some residual swelling for several months after the procedure before your breasts achieve their final appearance. Consult with your Specialty Aesthetic Surgery team at any point if you develop concerns or have any questions.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Most healthy adults can have breast augmentation as long as their expectations are reasonable, and they understand the risks and benefits. Good candidates want to improve the shape, symmetry, or fullness of their breasts.

You should wait to have this procedure if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Breast augmentation may not be recommended for people with certain medical conditions. Your surgeon will review all your medical issues to ensure your safety.

How Long Do Breast Implants Last?

Breast implants are long-lasting but not intended to remain in place forever. Implant rupture is extremely rare, and implants are usually removed for other reasons. One of the most common reasons for upgrading your implants is to address capsular contracture, the formation of hard scar tissue around the implant. Other common reasons include textural changes such as rippling. Implants usually last at least ten years and often longer.

Do I Need a Breast Augmentation or Breast Lift?

If you look at your breasts in the mirror and are happy with their overall position but want to improve their size, breast augmentation may be an excellent choice for you. However, if you have drooping breasts, downward-pointing nipples, or wish your breasts were higher on your chest, you may benefit from a breast lift. This procedure removes excess skin to lift your breasts back to their perky position and shape. However, it does not add volume.

Women who have been pregnant often experience sagging and volume loss, and they may benefit from having both procedures together. Only a consultation can determine which procedure will give you the results you hope to achieve.
