How Much is Rhinoplasty?

Your nose plays a central role in defining your facial appearance, so when it bothers you, it can be difficult not to let it affect your confidence. The desire to shape and enhance your nose is so common that rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is one of the world’s most popular cosmetic procedures. While cost is always a consideration when planning a plastic surgery procedure, rhinoplasty is an art form that requires a surgeon with a combination of technical skills and an eye for aesthetically pleasing results.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Your nose plays a functional and aesthetic role, and you can experience problems in one or both of those areas. Rhinoplasty is a procedure that corrects issues like size, bridge shape, and symmetry. It can also correct functional problems related to the structure of your nose, including the fairly common deviated septum. At Speciality Aesthetic Surgery, rhinoplasty is performed by our specialized facial plastic surgeons Dr. Grigoriy Mashkevich and Dr. Anna Frants. Their expertise in facial procedures makes them the ideal choice to sculpt your nose.

How Much is Rhinoplasty?

The cost of any plastic surgery procedure varies widely depending on many factors. Obtaining estimates can lead to drastically different numbers depending on how each facility discloses its pricing. We always recommend a consultation with one of our surgeons so they can examine your nose and discuss a treatment plan before discussing the cost.

Factors that affect the cost of your rhinoplasty include:

  • Your location
  • Your surgeon’s skill and experience
  • The type and complexity of your rhinoplasty
  • The type of anesthesia used
  • Additional expenses, such as medications

In some cases, a provider may offer a lower cost, only for you to learn later about the number of additional fees and expenses you will have to cover. At Specialty Aesthetic Surgery, we never mislead you about the prices of our procedures. Since each rhinoplasty is unique, we cannot provide you with an accurate estimate until we have fully examined your nose and discussed your goals.

What Does Rhinoplasty Treat?

When most people think of rhinoplasty, they think of a cosmetic procedure or “nose job.” However, a skilled plastic surgeon can use rhinoplasty to transform your life in many ways. Cosmetic issues addressed with this procedure include:

  • Bridge shape and width
  • Humps or bumps
  • Tip shape or length
  • Nostril shape or size
  • Crookedness
  • Asymmetry

Rhinoplasty can also serve a reconstructive or functional purpose, treating issues such as:

  • A congenitally abnormal nose
  • Narrow nasal passages
  • Deviated septum
  • Difficulty breathing through the nose
  • Repairing the nose after trauma or injury

How Does Rhinoplasty Work?

Rhinoplasty typically takes place under general anesthesia. Your surgeon can use different techniques depending on the type of changes they plan to make. For more minor adjustments, surgeons may perform a closed rhinoplasty, which means they use incisions made inside the nostrils. This method leaves no external scars but does not give your surgeon access to as much of your nasal structure.

More extensive changes will usually require an open rhinoplasty. The incision is made at the base of your nose between the nostrils, allowing your surgeon to work on different parts of your nasal structure. Once healed, the incision is nearly invisible, and most people consider it more than worth it for the results they achieve.

What is Recovery Like After Rhinoplasty?

After their procedure, people typically have bandages and a splint on their noses. They will need a ride home, and they can expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Pain medication will help keep them comfortable, and using ice as instructed will help manage discomfort and swelling. Most people only need prescription medication for a few days.

If their surgeon approves, most people can return to work five to seven days after rhinoplasty. The sutures and splint will usually come off after about a week during a follow-up visit. While most of the swelling is gone after a few weeks, your full results can take up to a year to evolve and develop.

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Our surgeons have extensive experience treating a wide range of aesthetic and functional concerns related to the nose. One common question is how old you must be to have rhinoplasty. Good candidates should usually be about 18 years old since this is the age at which the nasal structures are fully developed. Your surgeon will make a final determination after examining you. Candidates for rhinoplasty should be healthy adults and have realistic expectations. You may not be a good candidate if you have certain medical conditions or are pregnant.
