How Should I Prepare for a Facelift?

Have you recently made the decision to undergo facelift surgery?

If so, congratulations! You’re about to experience significant, life-changing results, including a more contoured facial appearance, firmer skin, and a youth-boosting transformation to your overall look.

In order to start enjoying the benefits of a facelift as soon as possible, it’s important to prepare yourself for both the surgery and the recovery process. That’s why we recommend these vital steps for your best facelift preparation.

5 Steps to Prepare For Your Facelift Surgery

1. Stop smoking and drinking.

Alcohol and smoking can thin your blood, meaning your risk of bleeding during surgery is increased by these habits. Plus, drinking and smoking can inhibit your body’s healing processes, making it much more likely that you’ll be left with visible facelift scarring.

We recommend quitting smoking and drinking at least six weeks before and after your facelift surgery.

2. Stop taking certain medications.

Talk to your doctor about which medications you should stop before facelift surgery. Some medications increase blood thinning or blood pressure, both of which can present health risks while you’re under general anesthesia.

3. Avoid aspirin and certain supplements.

Again, aspirin and certain supplements can increase your health risks on the operating table. Talk to your doctor or plastic surgeon about your medications (including supplements) to see which ones may increase your risk during your facelift surgery.

4. Prepare your space for recovery.

You’ll likely be groggy and tired during the first few days after facelift surgery, so we recommend preparing your recovery space before you undergo your procedure. Invest in a comfortable resting area, stock up on your favorite entertainment, and make a few meals ahead of time so you don’t have to worry about cooking or getting delivery.

5. Plan for someone to drive you to and from the surgical center.

You won’t be able to drive after your surgery due to the effects of general anesthesia, so it’s important to find someone who will take you to and from the surgical center.
