When Can I Return to Work After A Rhinoplasty?

At Specialty Aesthetic Surgery, we understand our patients are busy. That’s why our team of board-certified surgeons work with each patient individually to craft a treatment plan that will keep downtime to a minimum. While no two rhinoplasty patients heal the same, there are some general guidelines you can expect during recovery. Today, we’ll take a closer look at some factors that might affect when you’ll be able to return to work (or school).

#1: Your Overall Health

Patients that are in otherwise good general health typically respond best to surgical procedures of all types. Prior to your procedure, you may be required to undergo several lab tests and medical exams to ensure an optimal outcome during surgery. Most healthy men and women are physically ready to get back into the normal swing of things in about 7-10 days. However, some patients prefer more time to fully recover for aesthetic reasons before returning to work.

#2: The Complexity of Your Rhinoplasty

In many cases, our surgeons are able to get you the results you want solely through incisions made within the nostrils. This minimizes post-surgical scarring and facilitates a more speedy recovery. Patients that would like more extensive changes to the shape and size of their nose can expect a slightly longer recovery.

#3: Your Occupation

Patients that have desk jobs can typically return to work much sooner than those with more strenuous occupations. Physical activities that promote blood flow to the treatment area, such as strenuous exercises, should be avoided for three to six weeks following rhinoplasty.

Additionally, men and women who are ‘in the spotlight’ may want to take more time to fully heal before getting back to work. The majority of post-surgical swelling typically subsides within the first three weeks. We recommend postponing any major social events until around week three of recovery.

What’s Right for Me?

We want you to make an informed decision when it comes to preparing for your upcoming procedure. Our goal is your ultimate safety and a quick, easy recovery. We will help you determine what might be right for you based on your individual procedure as well as the above considerations.
