When Does a Facial Implant Need to Be Replaced?

If your facial features need more volume or definition, you have choices other than dermal fillers. Facial implants can restore lost facial volume or shape and contour your features. These implants can add a natural-looking enhancement that requires no maintenance and gives you lifelong results. Facial implants may be right for you if you want to add volume without worrying about touch-up treatments.

What is a Facial Implant?

Facial implants are safe and intended to remain in the body for long periods. They utilize the same technology and materials used in many medical implants and devices. They are placed under the skin and other layers of the face to add volume, lift lines and wrinkles, and improve facial definition. They can also be used to correct facial asymmetry and provide a more balanced appearance.

How Do Facial Implants Work?

Facial implants are typically but not always made of silicone. They are usually solid, so they can remain in place and provide strong contouring and lift. The procedure for placing facial implants depends on the type and location of the implant. They typically require a small incision that your surgeon will hide within skin creases or other sites.

Your surgeon carefully selects the best implant to suit your facial features and the shape you want to achieve. The surgeons at Specialty Aesthetic Surgery have considerable experience creating natural-looking results with facial implants.

When Does a Facial Implant Need to Be Replaced?

Facial implants are designed to be resilient, durable, and safe. Their solid material will not rupture, but it feels smooth and natural. While aging will affect the results of most facial procedures, it will not change your implants. Most facial implants will never need to be replaced

You may need to replace your implant in the unlikely event it somehow becomes damaged. You may also replace your implant if you find that you want to adjust your results to change the shape or volume. The implant can be removed easily at any time if you decide you do not want it anymore.

Types of Facial Implants

At Specialty Aesthetic Surgery, our surgeons have a knowledge of facial anatomy that allows them to use facial implants where many other surgeons do not. The most popular areas for facial implants are the chin, cheeks, and jaw. Facial implants excel in these areas because they are firm enough to add contouring and definition. You can also have implants in areas including under the eyes and to lift nasolabial folds.

Facial Implants, Facial Fat Grafting, or Dermal Fillers?

You have several options for adding facial volume. Each has its uses and benefits.

Facial Implants

Facial implants offer a permanent option for volume enhancement. They have the firmness to work in challenging areas like the cheeks and chin. They make a good choice for areas that do not need to move much.

Facial Fat Grafting

This procedure transfers fat to areas of your face to enhance volume. It provides a soft, natural volume that lasts a lifetime. It works well in flexible areas such as around the mouth but is usually too soft to provide strong contouring.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers typically last six months to about two years, although some can last longer. They come in many formulas that work almost anywhere on the face. Their versatility makes them the best option for some concerns, especially if you do not want to make permanent changes.

Am I a Good Candidate for Facial Implants?

Almost anyone makes a good candidate for facial implants. Good candidates have no significant health problems and reasonable expectations. Facial implants make an excellent choice for anyone who wants the benefits of permanent enhancement that can still be removed if desired.

How Much Do Facial Implants Cost?

The cost of implants varies considerably depending on the implant type and procedure used to place it. The average price of a facial implant procedure ranges from $2,000 to $4,000. This estimate may not include several types of fees and expenses. While initially more expensive than a dermal filler treatment, it will save you a considerable amount of money over years of dermal fillers.

What is Recovery Like After Facial Implants?

You can expect to have some swelling and bruising in the area of the implant. Some discomfort is normal, but most people feel much better after the first few days. You may be able to return to work within a week or two, depending on the extent of your procedure

What Results Will I See With Facial Implants?

The results of your facial implant will be visible immediately. Your full results will develop as the swelling resolves over the next few months. As the swelling fades, you will see your more defined, youthful features appear. You can expect to enjoy your new contours for a lifetime.
