If you’re interested in getting rhinoplasty surgery, you’re not alone.

This cosmetic surgery – which is also referred to as a nose job – is one of the most popular surgical procedures across both genders. In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, “nose reshaping” was the third-most common cosmetic procedure performed in the United States in 2018.

But maybe there’s something holding you back from discovering the transformative effects of a nose job: the idea of a visible scar.

That’s why we’ll aim to answer this popular question: does rhinoplasty leave a noticeable scar?

“Scarless” Nose Job: The Closed Rhinoplasty

If you want to correct a noticeable lump or bump on the bridge of your nose, or you want to straighten a crooked nose, you’re in luck: a closed rhinoplasty procedure could be exactly what you’re looking for.

This cosmetic procedure involves correcting the above nasal issues from within the nostrils. That means all incisions are placed within the nostrils, so there’s no visible scarring from your surgery.

Keep in mind that closed rhinoplasty procedures are not available to every patient, as they’re very specific to correcting certain nasal issues.

Reducing Visible Rhinoplasty Scarring

An open rhinoplasty is often used to correct more dramatic nasal issues, or to correct a bulbous tip. With this procedure, incisions are made along the natural curve of the nostrils.

There’s good news there: Because the incisions are placed within those curves, this means that surgical scars will eventually mimic the curvature. In other words, your scarring will no longer be visible!

How Else Can I Minimize Surgical Scarring?

If you want to ensure no one will notice your rhinoplasty scars, we recommend following your surgeon’s post-op recovery plans.

Additionally, it’s incredibly important for patients to wear sunscreen whenever they’re exposed to sunlight. UV rays can deepen the coloring of scars, making them much more noticeable and harder to fade.

“Dr. Grigoriy Mashkevich, MD performed my Rhinoplasty / Septoplasty and I am extremely happy with the results! I had my nose broken twice in the past and my septum was very deviated (causing breathing problems). I also had a bulbous tip that I wanted addressed. I was very nervous about the procedure but a friend of mine had gone to Dr. Mashkevich and I loved her natural results. I decided to take the plunge and from the get go I felt that Dr. M was very precise and cared about what he does very much. I felt that I could trust him to give me the results I wanted. The surgery itself was really not a big deal – the first 4 days after were uncomfortable mostly because of the bandages and splint but the pain wasn’t bad. I rested for those first few days and was surprised at how quickly bruising was fading and swelling diminishing. Within two weeks my nose looked really good – no hump good symmetry and I loved it even though my tip was still a bit swollen and took a little longer heal than the rest. Dr. M has been great post-op with answering questions I had right after surgery and on my follow up appointments. He’s a very talented, precise and amicable surgeon and I couldn’t be more pleased with my results!” *
