How Much Does Ear Surgery Cost?

Ear surgery (Otoplasty) is a unique procedure that’s done for men, women, and children of all ages. The procedure alters the shape and appearance of the ears and is most commonly performed for protruding (or lop) ear deformities. When performed by a skilled surgeon, otoplasty is generally a one-time procedure with about a week of downtime.

How Much is Ear Surgery?

Ear surgery is highly personalized on a per-patient basis. Some surgeons may opt to perform the surgery in the office solely with a local anesthetic. At Specialty Aesthetic Surgery, our highly skilled surgeons offer otoplasty either under local anesthesia (appropriate for most adults) or under general anesthesia (for children).

The top three expenses for ear surgery include:

  • Surgeon’s Fees
  • Facility Expenses
  • Anesthesia Costs

Aside from day-of related costs, there are some pre and post-surgery expenses to consider. Before surgery, patients can expect to pay out of pocket for certain medical exams and pre-screening tests.

Post-surgery expenses can include:

  • Prescription Medications
  • Post-Operative Garments
  • Follow-Up Visits

When getting a price quote from your surgeon, be sure to ask what’s included in their estimate. This way, you won’t be surprised by any additional costs along the way.

Traditional Vs. Reconstructive Ear Surgery

Traditional otoplasty, or ear pinning, is typically done for cosmetic purposes. This procedure can lead to exceptional outcomes with limited pain, scarring, or downtime.

Reconstructive otoplasty is done when more severe defects occur as a result of birth or trauma. These types of surgeries are often more complex requiring advanced surgical skills. Reconstructive ear surgery is generally more expensive than traditional otoplasty.
