Is There Any Scarring with Rhinoplasty?

A growing number of men and women looking to alter their facial appearance are choosing rhinoplasty surgery, also known as a nose job. During rhinoplasty, bone and cartilage are adjusted in order to modify the size and shape of the nose. The result can range from subtle to dramatic depending on individual needs of each patient.

Incisions made during rhinoplasty surgery are quite small and are strategically placed to ensure minimal scarring. There are two types of approaches in rhinoplasty surgery: closed and open.

During the closed approach, incisions are made exclusively on the inside of both nostrils. Closed rhinoplasty works best for patients who desire relatively minor changes.

An open rhinoplasty is the preferred method for more extensive changes to the nose. In this scenario, a small incision is made between both nostrils in addition to internal incisions. All incisions are meticulously closed in a way that reduces visible scarring. In nearly all instances, the incision between both nostrils heals exceptionally well and results in a tiny imperceptible scar.

When opting for rhinoplasty, it is important to choose a board-certified surgeon who is familiar and is experienced with this operation. A skilled surgeon is going to be up-to-date on the latest techniques and can ensure an optimal outcome.
