What is a Lower Facelift?

Not all facelifts are created equal. A facelift is a highly custom procedure tailored to the individual. There are many different surgical techniques available to address a range of aesthetic concerns. These days, a facelift is more of a loose term for a collection of surgical facial rejuvenation procedures. A lower facelift is less invasive than a full facelift and helps minimize pain, side effects, and scarring.

Many patients are pleasantly surprised to find that they can achieve a more youthful-looking appearance with a lower facelift. The procedure addresses the bottom third of the face which is often quick to show visible signs of aging. The procedure is able to correct deep wrinkles, facial creases, and lax skin that contribute to jowls and a fleshy neck.

Lower facelifts are done by our board-certified  surgeons with a small easily-concealable incision under general or local anesthesia. Over the course of 1-2 hours, your surgeon will remove excess skin and tighten underlying muscles restoring your face to a more youthful position. The corners of your mouth can also be raised giving you a naturally well-rested and happier appearance.

You’ll be able to go home the same day of your procedure. Because your surgery requires general anesthesia, you’ll need someone to drive you and stay with you at least 24-hours post-op. Most men and women choose to go back to work 1-2 weeks after their lower facelift. However, it can take several weeks to be fully healed.

Results from your lower facelift should be noticeable almost immediately. Skin will appear firmer, smoother, and more contoured. As post-surgical swelling and bruising subsides, an optimal outcome will begin to emerge. A lower facelift can take as much as 10-years off your facial appearance.

Lower facelifts can be paired with other procedures for further enhancement. Additional enhancing procedures may include a mid facelift or a neck lift. Combining treatments is a cost-effective solution for total rejuvenation with a single recovery period.

At the time of your initial consultation, one of our board-certified surgeons will perform an evaluation and determine what procedure(s) may be right for you. They’ll talk to you about your options in-depth and walk you through the decision-making process.
