Will Neck Liposuction Leave A Scar?

Submental fullness is a common condition that plagues many men and women. Under-chin fat is often hard to treat with diet and exercise alone which is why many patients are opting for surgical solutions like liposuction. The procedure can improve the appearance of your profile and make you instantly look years younger with very little downtime.

What Is Neck Liposuction?

Neck liposuction is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure that addresses submental fullness below the chin. Incisions are just large enough (approximately 3/8 inches) to allow a thin cannula tube to be inserted for fat removal. Stubborn pockets of fat are then removed via advanced suction methods.

Where Are Neck Lipo Incisions Made?

Liposuction incisions are made in easily-concealable locations like behind the ears. Neck liposuction also requires a small under-chin incision that is discretely hidden in the natural folds of your skin. In most cases, three incisions are enough to remove unwanted fat that causes the dreaded double-chin or sagging jowls.

Will I Have a Scar from Neck Liposuction?

Yes, post-surgical scars are inevitable. However, due to the latest techniques and placement of minor incisions scars are often only noticeable to you. Our board-certified surgeons work meticulously to close incisions in a way that optimizes healing and reduces the appearance of scars.

How Can I Minimize Neck Lipo Scars?

Patients who are worried about scars after liposuction can take preventative actions at home. Post-wound care is essential to reducing healing times. Pushing yourself too hard too soon can also strain and widen the incision. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and always wear 30SPF or high sunscreen to prevent scars from darkening. Non-smokers typically have less visible scars than people who smoke.

Your surgeon will provide you with post-surgical instructions on how you can facilitate a speedy recovery and minimize the appearance of scars. A topical cream may also be recommended.
