WHAT IS FAT GRAFTING/TRANSFER?
Fat Grafting/Transfer improves the volume and appearance of your face by relocating fat from your body and injecting into a separate treatment site. Our facial plastic surgery experts typically use fat extracted from the stomach or thighs to help shape and contour the face, adding more volume to create a more visually appealing look.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?
A Fat Grafting/Transfer procedure is ideal for individuals who are past adolescence, since the head and skull continue to grow during adolescence and this may impact the long-term appearance of the face. During your individual consultation, our facial plastic surgery experts will discuss the need for surgery and your individual candidacy.

*Individual Results May Vary.
Fat Grafting/Transfer is a fairly simple procedure. First, patients will be sedated with anesthesia to avoid any pain during surgery. Small incisions are then placed around the abdomen or thighs where fat is suctioned out. This area will heal easily. Once the fat has collected, it is processed and cleaned prior to being inserted into the face through incision marks placed in the treatment areas. Since the facial volume is created with your own fat, risk for an allergic reaction or rejection is significantly reduced. However, all surgical procedures have some risks including infection, scarring, and nerve damage. We can discuss your individual likelihood for risks at during consultation.
WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE?
Patients can expect to go home the day of the surgery. While most patients are usually able to be up and about within 24 hours, plan to take 7-10 days off from work as you heal. Care after the surgery includes ice and special creams to minimizing swelling and bruising. We also prescribe pain medication to be taken during the first 24-72 hours following the surgery. After this time period, over the counter Tylenol is adequate.
WHAT RESULTS WILL I SEE?
Projected results can be seen before the surgery is performed. Computer imaging and simulation are available to help visualize what your face will look like after the operation. Photos are taken from multiple angles and used to simulate the results that can be achieved. This allows our patients the opportunity to provide feedback on the kind of results they have envisioned.
