In September 2022, Razom, a non-profit organization, facilitated a medical mission trip to Ukraine for a group of 11 American doctors.

This included our facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Grigoriy Mashkevich and our Oculoplastic Surgeon Dr. Bruce Moskowitz from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to deliver advanced reconstructive surgeries and corrective plastic procedures to patients who suffered as a result of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Our Surgeons arrived to Ukraine and got straight to work! Embarking on this surgical mission trip to provide free reconstructive surgery to people who have suffered from head, face and neck injuries do to the war in Ukraine.

This team consists of plastic surgeons, nurses, and surgical staff, including our surgeons Dr. Bruce K Moskowitz and Dr. Grigoriy Mashkevich. In addition: Dr. Augustine Moscatello, Dr. Manoj Abraham from Hudson valley, and Dr. Boris Chernobilksky, and many more!

It’s surgical mission trips like this that give us hope towards a brighter future for the people of Ukraine.

“Once again we thank everyone for inviting us , it’s unfortunate that it took a war to bring us to come to Ukraine- we are very sympathetic towards everything the people of Ukraine had to experience and are currently still going through. However, we are beyond grateful and appreciate  this opportunity in having a small part in helping the Ukrainian nation.”

We are pleased to announce that in APRIL 2023 our surgeons Dr. Bruce Moskowitz and Dr. Grigoriy Mashkevich, along with staff, went to UKRAINE on their second surgical mission trip to repair complex facial injuries sustained in the war.

Purpose- a team of American facial plastic surgeons will provide medical care to those who have suffered head, face, and neck injuries.

This humanitarian program was created in collaboration with the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and the organizations Razom for Ukraine and INgenius.

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.”

In September 2022, Razom, a non-profit organization, facilitated a medical mission trip to Ukraine for a group of 11 American doctors. In April 2023 we are proud to announce we completed our second surgical mission trip to Ukraine!

Till next time Ukraine , we will return!

In August 2023, Dr. Bruce Moskowitz hosted an event to raise funds to endow Razom’s Co-Pilot project based on the war in Ukraine.

With a very special guest appearance from award winning actor Liev Schreiber – who is Ukrainian descent and continues to support Ukrainian humanitarian organizations!

Our mission is not just to treat the injured soldiers, but to train Ukrainian surgeons in advanced reconstructive facial plastic surgery both here in the U.S. and on the ground in Ukraine.

Our initial goal is to fully train a group of Ukrainian surgeons over a year or two, so that they can perform these complicated surgeries on their own and to train others so that we can multiply our effectiveness. Current estimates state that more than 70,000 patients will require these services and we need to scale up and treat them with the best of care for their heroism and dignity!

We would like to thank Liev Schreiber , Razom for Ukraine , INgenius, AAFPRS, and everyone who joined us and helped make this event possible! We hope to continue to bring help and awareness to the country of Ukraine!

PRESS RELEASE: Facial Plastic Surgeons Embark on Mission Trip to Ukraine

Press Release – American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) | Apr 20, 2023

This April, an interdisciplinary medical team of 19—including four facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons, members of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS)—will travel to Ukraine to repair complex facial injuries sustained in war. This is the second FACE TO FACE mission trip to Ukraine in the last seven months; in September 2022, a team of surgeons spent nine days in the country on a similar mission.

“We were all so impressed by the resiliency of the Ukrainian people whom we helped on our last trip, and given the ongoing and expanding nature of the war, we know there will be an exponentially greater number of patients with devastating facial injuries who need our expertise,” says mission trip leader and FACE TO FACE Committee Senior Advisor Manoj T. Abraham, MD, FACS. “By training the local surgeons to do these complex reconstructive procedures, we hope to have a meaningful impact and hope to continue educational activities through FACE TO FACE and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.”

The AAFPRS, the world’s largest association of facial plastic surgeons, in collaboration with FACE TO FACE (F2F) Committee Senior Advisor Manoj T. Abraham, MD, FACS. Other AAFPRS members on the mission trip include John Frodel, MD, Ryan Winters, MD,  Grigoriy Mashkevich, MD, and Dr. Bruce Moskowitz.

F2F and partners, including Razom, the third largest U.S.-based aid organization sending aid to Ukraine; Dr. Ivanka Nebor, founder of InGenius, an organization designed to help train Ukrainian doctors; and Healing the Children Northeast, were critical in providing logistical support and funding to obtain the medical equipment and supplies needed for this mission trip.

The F2F humanitarian programs allow AAFPRS members to use their surgical skills and expertise to help those who are in need domestically and abroad. These physicians and support staff provide their services pro bono and self-fund much of the costs for the expensive medical supplies and equipment needed. F2F programs are conducted under the auspices of the Educational and Research Foundation for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS Foundation).

WHEN: The FACE TO FACE team will travel to Ukraine in late April 2023.

WHERE: The team will travel to Lviv, Ukraine. There, they’ll work alongside Ukrainian physicians by official invitation from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

WHY: This mission aims to serve approximately 25-30 patients, mostly soldiers and civilians injured in the war with complex facial injuries. The travel team of experts will also be teaching local surgeons complex reconstructive surgery techniques, including microvascular tissue transplants (for instance, using the fibula bone in the leg to rebuild missing parts of the jaw and facial skeleton) using custom 3-D implants to precisely replace missing tissue.

The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is the world’s largest specialty association for facial plastic surgery. It represents more than 2,200 facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons throughout the world. The AAFPRS is a National Medical Specialty Society of the American Medical Association (AMA) and holds an official seat in both the AMA House of Delegates and the American College of Surgeons Board of Governors. AAFPRS members are board-certified surgeons whose focus is surgery of the face, head, and neck (inclusive of Rhinoplasty and Facial Rejuvenation). More information at www.facemd.org

Founded in 1992, FACE TO FACE is a humanitarian and educational surgical exchange program sponsored by the Educational and Research Foundation for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). Both in the United States and abroad, AAFPRS surgeons and other medical professionals provide complimentary care to those who suffer from facial deformities caused by birth or trauma. To date, it is estimated that FACE TO FACE volunteers have helped nearly four thousand people worldwide.
