Blepharoplasty

An Asian Blepharoplasty does not seek to “westernize” the eyes or make them look “less Asian”-rather, the goal of this procedure is to maintain the beauty and natural appearance of the eyes while also addressing a concern with the appearance of the folds in the upper eyelid.  Additionally, common concerns often involve the configuration of the epicanthal (nasal) fold and the lateral canthal position.  These procedures are customized to the individual as they do not conform to a single aesthetic vision.

Dissatisfaction with the appearance of the upper eyelid folds including the medial (inner corner) canthus.

Asian blepharoplasty encompasses both open and closed techniques that are employed to create the “double fold” and to eliminate redundant skin. If only a fold creation is desired then a minimally invasive suture technique can be performed. But if the skin and fat is more prominent then the open technique is utilized. . Incisions are placed to camouflage the appearance and are hardly noticeable after healing Both procedures can be performed under local anesthesia or sedation and take between 40minutes to an hour.

An extensive consultation and examination will determine the choice of procedures and other adjunctive techniques that will enhance the cosmetic results and the patient’s goals. Ideally old photographs are utilized to see the youthful contours of the patient.

Patients are given detailed instructions on postoperative care for their incisions which typically involves ointments placed on the wounds and the use of iced compresses to reduce swelling and expedite the healing process.
