Top 3 Reasons People Consider Rhinoplasty

As a central feature of the face, your nose attracts a lot of attention. If you feel unhappy with the appearance of your nose, this attention may make you feel self-conscious. Rhinoplasty can reshape or resize your nose to give you your desired appearance

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgery performed to reshape the nose for cosmetic or functional reasons. A cosmetic rhinoplasty changes the appearance of the nose, while a functional rhinoplasty corrects breathing problems. Dr. Moskowitz and Dr. Mashkevich have extensive experience with rhinoplasty procedures

Top 3 Reasons People Consider Rhinoplasty

Reasons for choosing rhinoplasty are as individual as noses. However, most fall into three categories.

Nose Size or Shape

Many people consider rhinoplasty because they feel uncomfortable with the shape or size of their noses. You may feel like your nose looks out of proportion to the rest of your face or want your nostrils, nose tip, or bridge reshaped. Rhinoplasty can help you achieve balance and symmetry between your facial features.

Crooked or Asymmetrical Nose

You may have acquired a crooked or asymmetrical nose through injury or trauma. You may also have been born with it. Rhinoplasty can straighten a crooked nose or reshape an asymmetrical one. You may feel much more self-confident when your problem has been corrected.

Functional Problems

If you have issues with breathing through your nose, rhinoplasty might be the best solution. Many people have issues with the nose that obstruct the airways. One of the most common problems, a deviated septum, often results from a nose injury. A functional rhinoplasty will restore normal breathing.

How Does Rhinoplasty Work?

Dr. Moskowitz and Dr. Mashkevich perform rhinoplasty under general anesthesia. For a closed rhinoplasty, your surgeon uses incisions inside the nostrils. Open rhinoplasty uses a small incision between the nostrils. Your surgeon will then reshape the cartilage and bone to create your desired nose.

What is Recovery Like From Rhinoplasty?

After surgery, you will have a splint on your nose to protect and stabilize it. Sleeping with your head elevated will reduce swelling and discomfort. For several weeks after surgery, you will need to avoid actions such as blowing your nose or pulling clothes over your head.

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

If you have a cosmetic or functional problem with your nose and want to fix it, you may make a good candidate for rhinoplasty. Ideal candidates are healthy, old enough to have fully developed nasal cartilage, and do not smoke.
