What is a Liquid Facelift?

Aging is an inevitable process that affects everyone. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity, volume, and firmness, leading to the wrinkles and sagging skin we all dread. While some people opt for surgical facelifts to combat these signs of aging, others may prefer less invasive procedures. That’s why Specialty Aesthetic Surgery offers liquid facelifts to rejuvenate your appearance without surgery or downtime.

What is a Liquid Facelift?

A liquid facelift is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses injectable dermal fillers to lift and rejuvenate the face. It is called a liquid facelift because it involves injecting gel-like substances into the face to restore lost volume, smooth out wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. This allows patients to achieve similar results as a facelift without the need for surgery.

Unlike the surgery it’s named after, a liquid facelift is minimally invasive and requires no incisions or general anesthesia. Our experienced providers perform this quick and easy procedure in-office in as little as 30 minutes. If needed, we can also combine your liquid facelift with liposuction to remove excess facial fat.

How Does a Liquid Facelift Work?

A liquid facelift primarily involves injecting dermal fillers strategically throughout the face for a rejuvenating effect. We use dermal fillers with powerful ingredients like hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body that helps to keep the skin hydrated and plump. These gel-like fillers boost your skin’s health and hydration at the same time as they restore facial volume.

During the procedure, your practitioner will first assess your facial features and identify the areas that need to be treated. They will then inject the chosen dermal fillers to strategically replace lost volume, smooth out wrinkles, and enhance your contours. The treatment is quick and simple, and most people experience little to no discomfort.

Which Dermal Fillers Does a Liquid Facelift Include?

Your liquid facelift may include popular fillers like Juvederm®, Bellafil®, and Radiesse®. Each of these fillers has unique properties and can be used to address different concerns. Your provider will artfully combine the best fillers to create a personalized treatment for your facial structure and aesthetic goals.

Juvederm® is a hyaluronic acid-based filler that is commonly used to treat wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth and nose or augment facial features such as the lips. We may also use Radiesse®, which is made with calcium hydroxylapatite and is ideal for restoring volume to the cheeks and enhancing facial contours.

For deep wrinkles and creases such as nasolabial folds, we may use Bellafil®, a collagen-based filler. Collagen is an essential protein in your skin that provides strength and structure. Bellafil® offers uniquely natural-looking and long-lasting results compared to other dermal fillers.

What Can a Liquid Facelift with Dermal Fillers Treat?

One of the primary benefits of this innovative procedure is its customizable versatility. A liquid facelift can address a range of cosmetic concerns, including:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth and nose
  • Nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the nose to the mouth)
  • Marionette lines (the lines that run from the corners of the mouth to the chin)
  • Hollows under the eyes
  • Sunken cheeks
  • Loss of volume in the temples
  • Jowls and sagging skin along the jawline
  • Uneven or asymmetrical facial features

How Long Does a Liquid Facelift Last?

The duration of a liquid facelift depends on the types of dermal fillers used and the individual’s metabolism. Liquid facelifts are a highly customizable treatment, so everyone’s results are a little different. Dermal fillers also may last longer in certain parts of the face than others.

Typically, the results of a liquid facelift are immediate and can last anywhere from one to two years. Juvederm® usually lasts six months to a year, while Radiesse® can last up to 18 months, and Bellafil® may last a few years.

Is There Any Downtime After a Liquid Facelift?

Unlike the surgical facelift it’s named after, a liquid facelift doesn’t require any downtime. Dermal fillers are a convenient treatment that allows you to resume your regular activities immediately. Patients may experience mild bruising and swelling at the injection sites, but this should fade within a couple of days. Some patients may want to take a day or two off of work or recover over the weekend.

Am I a Candidate for a Liquid Facelift?

A liquid facelift with dermal fillers is an ideal treatment for almost anyone and can be tailored to meet each patient’s individual needs. This procedure is best for patients with mild to moderate signs of aging and good skin elasticity. For more severe aging concerns or skin laxity, we may recommend a surgical facelift instead.
