What is Juvederm® Made of, and How Does it Work?

Loss of facial volume can give away your age or make your features look less defined. Juvederm® dermal fillers can enhance volume in areas like the lips, cheeks, and wrinkles. While they can address signs of aging, Juvederm® fillers can also give individuals of any age a fuller, more defined appearance. This popular dermal filler brand is one of the world’s most widely used aesthetic injectables.

What is Juvederm®?

Dermal fillers are injectable, biologically safe materials that enhance facial volume. Juvederm® is a popular family of fillers designed to address a range of needs. Juvederm® fillers come in a variety of formulas so that they can treat many different concerns. These versatile fillers can be used alone or in combination with other treatments like Botox® to rejuvenate your features. Juvederm® offers a no-downtime alternative to other aesthetic treatments.

What is Juvederm® Made of, and How Does it Work?

Juvederm® fillers use the safest, most widely used filler material in the world: hyaluronic acid. This molecule has become extremely popular in skincare due to its ability to attract and hold hydration. Instead of applying it to the surface, Juvederm® injects it into the deeper layers of skin, where it provides smoothness and plumping.

Hyaluronic acid adds volume by holding moisture deep inside the skin, lifting it from beneath. It provides natural-looking results that look like your own features but fuller and more defined. It does not react with the skin and can remain in place safely until your body naturally removes it.

What Types of Juvederm® are Available?

Juvederm® fillers come in various formulas that allow them to address different concerns. Each contains a different form of hyaluronic acid formulated for a specific area or goal.

Juvederm® Voluma

Voluma is used to add volume to the cheeks and chin. It can create a stronger profile and restore fullness to hollow-looking cheeks. This long-lasting filler works well where more definition and shape are needed.

Juvederm® Vollure

Vollure is used to treat moderate to severe lines around the nose and mouth, often known as marionette lines and nasolabial folds. It lifts and smooths deep lines for a rejuvenated appearance.

Juvederm® Volbella

Volbella’s flexible formula is most often used as a lip filler, providing full, natural-looking plumpness. It is also used to address hollowness under the eyes for a more youthful, alert look that allows a full range of motion.

Juvederm® Ultra Plus

Ultra Plus provides an alternative for addressing moderate to severe nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Your expert injector may prefer Vollure depending on your needs and the severity of your lines and wrinkles.

Juvederm® Ultra

Ultra is a lip filler that can also be used for fine lines around the mouth. It may be used instead of Volbella depending on your goals and which formula will provide your best results. Your expert injector will have the experience to select the best options.

What to Expect During Juvederm® Treatment

You can expect your Juvederm® session to take 30 minutes to an hour. You will receive a series of injections with tiny needles, each feeling like a very minor pinch. Your expert injector will ensure your comfort throughout treatment. You may have one or more areas treated, and your injector may use more than one kind of filler.

Is There Any Downtime After Juvederm® Dermal Fillers?

Like other dermal fillers, Juvederm® does not require any downtime. You can return to your usual activities immediately. Some people notice a few spots of redness or bruising in the treatment area, and you may also experience minor swelling. We will recommend avoiding NSAIDs, alcohol, and some supplements before treatment to reduce the chance of bruising.

Am I a Good Candidate for Juvederm®?

Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the skin and is safe for all skin types and tones. Good candidates for Juvederm® fillers have reasonable goals and expectations. You should not have injections in an area where you have an injury, infection, or active skin condition. You should not have dermal fillers if you are pregnant. Only a consultation can determine whether you are a good candidate for fillers.

What Results Will I See With Juvederm® Fillers?

Your Juvederm® filler results are usually visible immediately after your appointment. They may look a bit fuller than you expected for a day or two as the filler settles into place and the swelling resolves. Lip fillers like Juvederm® Ultra and Volbella usually last about a year, while cheek and chin fillers like Voluma can last up to two years. Your body will gradually remove Juvederm® over time, with denser, more resilient fillers lasting longer than softer, more flexible ones.
