What is the Best Age to Get a Brow Lift?

Drooping eyebrows and forehead wrinkles can give you a tired or even angry appearance. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, rejuvenates the upper part of your face for more alert, visible eyes and a smoother forehead. While these concerns are common with age, some people are genetically prone to experience sagging brows as a natural feature. As a result, people of many ages choose a brow lift to restore lifted, expressive brows.

What is a Brow Lift?

Your brows form a key part of your nonverbal communication. Sagging or downturned brows can keep you from expressing yourself the way you want to. A brow lift corrects loose forehead skin and lifts the brows by tightening your skin and underlying tissues. You can have a brow lift alone or with a range of other facial procedures to rejuvenate your problem areas. Dr. Aycock has extensive experience performing brow lifts with refreshed, natural-looking results.

What is the Best Age to Get a Brow Lift?

Aging and collagen loss will cause most of us to develop sagging brow and forehead wrinkles. However, these effects appear at a different age for everyone. Factors such as sun exposure can cause early signs of aging. Some people inherit drooping brows as a family trait. As a result, there is no perfect age to get a brow lift.

Facelift candidates are often in their 40s to 60s. However, they may be as young as their 30s, and the only upper age limit is your health and ability to undergo the procedure safely. The best age to get a brow lift is when the appearance of your brows and forehead starts to bother you. Only a consultation can determine whether you are at the right age for a brow lift.

How is a Brow Lift Performed?

Your Specialty Aesthetics Surgery surgeon will choose the type of brow lift to best achieve your goals. An endoscopic brow lift uses small incisions hidden in the hairline to lift and tighten the skin and underlying tissues. Some individuals may need an open or traditional brow lift, while others who only need minor lifting can benefit from a modified version of the procedure. Each brow lift uses a customized treatment plan based on your needs. All incisions are carefully hidden so they will be nearly invisible when healed.

What is Recovery Like After a Brow Lift?

Brow lift recovery depends on the type of procedure performed. Endoscopic brow lift minimizes recovery time by using very small tools and incisions, but all types usually have a smooth recovery. Minor swelling and bruising may occur, along with some discomfort for the first day or two. Ice packs can reduce swelling and discomfort.

Most people return to work one to two weeks after their procedure. You can resume more strenuous physical activities after two weeks, but avoid pressure on your forehead for four to six weeks. We recommend avoiding snug-fitting hats or headbands during this time. Residual swelling can take several weeks to resolve.

How Long Will Brow Lift Results Last?

One of the biggest benefits of a surgical procedure is the long-lasting results. However, no procedure can permanently prevent the effects of aging. You will eventually notice some skin laxity in the brow and forehead area over time. Most people love their results for ten to fifteen years or more. You can prolong your results by using medical-grade skincare products and consistent sun protection.

What Other Procedures Can I Have With a Brow Lift?

A brow lift combines well with a range of other surgical and non-surgical procedures. A brow lift may be combined with a facelift to address the areas a facelift cannot. It is often combined with blepharoplasty (an eyelid lift) to brighten and rejuvenate the eye area. Having more than one procedure simultaneously can save you money and recovery time over having each one alone.

Many people also combine non-surgical treatments with a brow lift. These can include:

  • Dermal fillers
  • Neuromodulators like Botox®
  • Microneedling
  • Laser skin resurfacing
  • Chemical peels

These treatments can help keep your brows and forehead smooth and lifted. They can also improve skin texture and tone for a more youthful appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is appropriate for most healthy adults with drooping brows or forehead wrinkles. Good candidates should have reasonable expectations and no major health concerns. Brow lift candidates can range widely in age as long as they are appropriate for the procedure. You should not have a brow lift if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Only a consultation can tell your surgeon if a brow lift will achieve your desired results.
