Facelift VS Liquid Facelift: Which is Right for Me?

A facelift can produce dramatic results, but it isn’t right for everyone. For people who don’t need or feel ready for a facelift, a liquid facelift offers many of the benefits with little recovery time. The professionals at Specialty Aesthetic Surgery can advise you on which procedure will give you the results you want.

What is a Facelift?

Your surgeon performs a facelift with the person under local or general anesthesia. Small incisions hidden in the hair and around the ears give the surgeon access to the skin, muscle, and fat tissue of the face. By lifting and rearranging the underlying structures and removing excess skin, your surgeon can smooth out lines and wrinkles as well as lift sagging skin on the forehead, cheeks, and other parts of the face.

What is a Liquid Facelift?

In a liquid facelift, the person receives dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid or hydroxyapatite injected into the face in strategic areas. Fillers act to lift and add volume to places where it may have been lost, such as the cheeks, around the eyes, and around the mouth. Lines and wrinkles can also improve with an injection of dermal filler.

Facelift VS Liquid Facelift: Which is Right for Me?

To determine which one might be right for you, consider the pros and cons of a facelift vs. liquid facelift.

Pros and Cons of a Facelift

One point in favor of a facelift: as a surgical procedure, it creates long-lasting results. It can also create more dramatic results than a liquid facelift and works better for people with a significant amount of sagging skin or deep lines and wrinkles.

Possible points against a facelift include the need for general anesthesia during the procedure, surgical intervention, and ensuing weeks of recovery time. While getting a facelift from an experienced surgeon is very safe, some people do not feel comfortable with the idea of surgery.

Pros and Cons of a Liquid Facelift

One downside of a liquid facelift: it will only last about six months to a year. Hyaluronic acid fillers dissipate and get absorbed by the body after a period of time. In addition, a liquid facelift generates more subtle results than a surgical facelift.

Liquid facelifts work best for people who want to correct minor sagging, lines, and wrinkles. For more significant loose skin, your surgeon may recommend a facelift.

Recovery and Results

Recovery from a liquid facelift takes no time at all, while recovery from a facelift potentially takes several weeks to see the swelling and bruising resolve. However, you will only have to experience a facelift once (most common scenario), while maintaining your liquid facelift will require trips back to your provider once or twice a year.

Both procedures offer excellent results for people who have reasonable expectations. A liquid facelift cannot give the results of a surgical procedure, but it can improve volume, lift, and firmness.
