What is a Nose Job?

A nose job is a surgical procedure in which the shape of the nose is altered. In this article, we are going to be taking a look at nose jobs, what they are, and who can benefit from them. Keep reading down below if you would like to find out more about this topic.

Nose Job Overview

A nose job, known professionally as Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that alters the shape of your nose. Your surgeon at Speciality Aesthetic Surgery will go over all of the specifics with you but there are two ways that rhinoplasty can be done. There is either an open rhinoplasty in which the nose is cut between the nostrils, or a closed rhinoplasty in which tiny incisions are made inside the nostrils.

It is far more common to have an open rhinoplasty as sometimes the closed option isn’t available or isn’t possible to achieve the results that you are looking for. This procedure can take anywhere up to around four hours, and you are going to have to take the following week off work to recover. Long-term recovery can take anywhere up to a year in order for all the swelling to completely subside. In most cases, patients feel very comfortable about the appearance of their nose within 7-14 days.

What Can a Rhinoplasty Address?

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty

A cosmetic rhinoplasty is performed when the patient wants to change the shape of their nose for aesthetic purposes. It could be that you think your nose is too big, too small, bent, or crooked. A cosmetic rhinoplasty seeks to correct the imperfections in your nose, taking into account your other facial features and all other considerations.

Your surgeon will discuss their plans for changing the shape of your nose. This could either include changing the structure which includes the bone in your nose, or it could involve the cartilage at the bottom of your nose. It could be a case that both will be needed depending on the results that you are looking for.

Functional Rhinoplasty

A functional rhinoplasty is performed with the sole intention of aiding the patient in breathing properly. Some people have a hard time breathing through their nose and a rhinoplasty can help to correct that. The breathing problems could be caused by a number of things including a deviated septum.

It might be that you are experiencing a different functional problem with your nose, and if this is the case then you should speak to your surgeon and see what they can do to help you.

Benefits of a Nose Job

There are many benefits to getting a nose job! One of these is that it will help to make you feel more comfortable with the way you look.

When you are more comfortable with your appearance, you are going to be more confident in yourself and that can be a meaningful experience. It might be the case that your nose has been the center of your insecurities for as long as you can remember, but now you have the option to change its shape and finally feel better about yourself.

Another benefit is that it can help you to breathe easier. If you have had issues with breathing due to your nose, then a nose job is the solution you need. Our fully qualified, expert team of surgeons here at Specialty Aesthetic Surgery will be able to make your life that little bit easier by allowing you to breathe normally through your nose. For some, this is life changing.

You may also find that a nose job significantly reduces, or eradicates your snoring! A nose job may also be able to relieve sinus problems such as headaches, sinus pressure and constant nasal congestion.

Am I a Candidate for a Nose Job?

You could be the perfect candidate for a nose job if:

  • You want confidence back in your face
  • You are finding it difficult to breathe through your nose
  • You experience constant sinus problems
  • You have a deviated septum
  • You have suffered some kind of nasal trauma
  • You want to enhance the appearance of your nose
